To prepare citizens for the 18-month reconstruction of a main gateway through Golden, the city will outline the project at a public meeting next week.

The meeting on the construction at U.S. 6 at 19th Street will begin at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Fossil Trace Golf Club, 3050 Illinois St., Golden, and will include a 30-minute presentation by city staff followed by questions. The presentation will be repeated at 7:30 p.m.

The presentation will cover , the project’s timeline and impeding traffic detours, according to a release from the city.

Construction is estimated to last until September 2017.

The city has nicknamed the project “Linking Lookout” because it will improve access for local and pedestrian traffic travelling across U.S. 6 from Lookout Mountain neighborhoods into Golden. An outline of the project can be found by going to .

The $25 million project will lower U.S.6 about 22 feet below its current alignment to allow for a bridge above the highway and exit ramps for entering Golden. That bridge, designed by Golden’s public works department, is being called a “lid” because with benches and picnic shelters.

The project is , which has a vested interest because some of its student housing is on the side of U.S. 6 opposite its campus.
