Dead marmot Flatiron Freddy “sees” shadow, predicts early spring for Boulder

BOULDER — Flatiron Freddy is used to dealing with Groundhog Day. Apparently, he’s not as good at dealing with snow days.

Flatiron Freddy — the dead, stuffed marmot who serves as Boulder’s answer to Punxsutawney Phil — had to make annual his Groundhog Day forecast without his usual student audience after a snowstorm shut local schools.

But the dead rodent still braved the snow on Boulder’s Chautauqua Meadow to make his prediction.

Boulder Open Space Ranger Dave Gustafson said Freddy did not see his shadow, just snow.
