
Denver Councilwoman Mary Beth Susman says the most controversial provision in the city’s proposed rules on short-term rentals — think Airbnb and similar companies — is limiting them to homes that are the owner’s primary residence.
“We are already getting pushback on the primary-residence rule,”
No doubt. But the city should stick to its guns. By all means legalize short-term rentals, but do so in a way that doesn’t transform the nature of residential neighborhoods. Most people who move into such neighborhoods do not expect the house next door to be a full-time motel in all but name. And that’s a reasonable expectation.
