Ran into Patty Childress on Saturday … the former volleyball coach at Grandview was in attendance to watch her husband, Gary Childress, lead the Vista PEAK Bison against the Rangeview Raiders in nonleague boys basketball in Aurora.
Patty Childress left the Wolves program following the past season. As one of the best coaches on state record, she compiled 493 career victories. Grandview also won five Class 5A state championships and was runner-up twice.
“We were probably there a few times that we shouldn’t have been,” she said.
Not sure what will be next, Childress said she’ll retire from teaching at the end of the school year.
She did not, however, rule out returning to coach.
