A Larimer County Sheriff’s deputy on an emergency call was injured in a collision with a PT Cruiser on Sunday morning.

The deputy was westbound on Horsetooth Road with emergency lights flashing when he collided with the Cruiser, which was heading south on College Avenue, at about 7:16 a.m., said Kate Kimble, a spokeswoman for Fort Collins Police Services.

Both drivers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The deputy, who was driving a hostage negotiation van was responding to a call of a subject in crisis, said Jared Kramer, a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

That individual was on a tower at the Dam Store near the mouth of the Big Thompson canyon.

Someone saw the man firing shots in the area, according to a sheriff’s office release. The man surrendered at about 7:50 a.m.
