Four dogs possibly burned down a Colorado Springs mobile home Friday while trying to sneak a pizza box and chicken wings off a gas stove.
“The exact circumstances in which the burner was activated are unclear,” Colorado Springs Fire Department Capt. Steve Oswald wrote in an e-mail. “However, it is possible that one of the four dogs present inside the home at the time of the fire may have activated the control knob for the gas burner while attempting to retrieve food from the stovetop.”
The gas stove was an older model with knobs on the front and no pilot safety built into it, according to a news release.
Two of the dogs died in the fire on the 3300 block of North Hancock Avenue.
The fire was ruled accidental and caused $26,000 damage.
