A meeting Tuesday between officials from the Boulder Valley School District and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. over potential drilling near a future K-8 school site in Erie did not result in any final agreements.
They plan to hold another meeting later this month.
“We had a productive meeting and are hopeful we will be able to resolve this issue and maintain our 2017 opening date,” BVSD Superintendent Bruce Messinger said in a statement Wednesday. “We share the community’s desire to provide a neighborhood school.”
The future of a proposed 750-student school for the Flatiron Meadows neighborhood of Erie has , as tighter oil and gas setback regulations put in place by the state 2½ years ago made the 15-acre site unviable for a school.
BVSD is urging Anadarko, which has surface rights on a parcel next to the school site, to drill from another location. The district has said that if it can’t break ground on the $39 million school by next month, it may delay its opening by at least a year.
