Gunnison police officers late Wednesday shot a suspect after a chase over Monarch Pass that ended in Chaffee County.
The suspect, identified only as a male, was taken to Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida. No information on his condition was provided.
Gunnison police say county prosecutors are investigating the shooting.
The man was contacted by police about 11 p.m. in Gunnison. Authorities say he provided officers with a false name and date of birth. The suspect then fled, almost striking an officer, they said.
Officers and Gunnison County sheriff’s deputies pursued the suspect, who was in a Jeep Grand Cherokee with temporary tags, as he headed east over Monarch Pass. The suspect was followed into Chaffee County, was stopped by officers and deputies, and was shot. Police have not said what prompted officers to shoot the suspect.
