Bob Smith attended the 81st state tournament, and why not? It was his 65th straight as a competitor, coach or fan.

Few in state history have his credentials, experience or success. He placed twice while wrestling for Denver North and coached Wray for 33 years.

He coached the Eagles to 10 team titles and seven runner-up finishes and oversaw 39 individual champions. Also, he was instrumental in getting all classes under one roof for the tournament. “It gets in your blood,” he said, “and I love it.”
