The Adams County School District 50 Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday night to change the district’s name to Westminster Public Schools.

The name change is part of a branding effort that will include a new logo, tagline and colors as well as an upgraded website and the creation of a parent-friendly app to ensure accurate, timely information aimed at promoting parental involvement in education, according to a school district news release.

“This is an important step for the school district because we really needed to create a new identity that not only better reflects where we are geographically, but makes a bold statement about the changes in the district over the last several years,” Superintendent Pam Swanson said in the release.

Several school districts in Adams County identify by using numbers after the uniform county name, the Westminster Public Schools name should help alleviate confusion brought on by the repetitive county name, the release said.

Costs of some components of the name change, including signs on buildings and busses, in many instances, will be absorbed as part of the normal replacement cycle.
