Frontier Airlines will add daily nonstop service to Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix from Colorado Springs, as the ultra-low-cost carrier rebuilds at the El Paso County airport after a three-year absence.
The new flight is expected to start June 28.
Frontier on Tuesday also said it will add a flight to Washington Dulles from Denver and has added service between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.
A month ago, , where the carrier ceased operations in 2013. Frontier returned with a Colorado Springs-Las Vegas daily flight that is slated to start April 14.
“We’ve seen great support from the Colorado Springs community,” Frontier spokesman Jim Faulkner said.
Frontier’s latest addition will bring the number of direct flights between Colorado Springs and Phoenix to two. Allegiant Air runs semi-weekly service between COS and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
Frontier currently offers a one-stop flight to Dulles from Denver International Airport but is adding a nonstop red-eye starting June 22 to provide another choice for Denver passengers. The carrier also has three daily flights to Ronald Reagan National Airport.
The Las Vegas-Salt Lake service, with a frequency of three days a week, starts May 15.
With Tuesday’s announcements, Frontier says it has announced 59 new routes for the spring and summer.
The expansion comes as Frontier adds 18 airplanes to its fleet. Frontier plans to retire nine aircraft in 2016 and should end the year at 64 planes, a net increase of nine. Additional capacity for the new markets will come from shifting seasonal flights and reducing frequency in markets where Frontier runs multiple flights daily, officials said.
