Shane McMahon, the son of WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, . As his sister Stephanie was about to accept the Vincent J. McMahon Legacy of Excellence Award, Shane’s music hit.
To say this was a surprise is an understatement. Shane left the company (for-realsies) in 2010 to pursue his own business interests and there was no indication that he was coming back.
Shane said in the segment that he returned to take control of “Raw” from his sister and father. But the stipulation, Vince said, is that Shane would have to beat The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas.
He’s been involved in plenty of story angles over the years, including several power struggles over control of the company. He’s been known for taking big bumps (another understatement), including .
The match helps flesh out the WrestleMania 32 card while the WWE struggles as several of its top stars are out with injuries. John Cena, long the face of the company, is coming off of shoulder surgery and is iffy to return. Randy Orton, Cesaro and Seth Rollins are not scheduled to return until after ‘Mania. Daniel Bryan recently retired because of concussions.
Also announced Monday for WrestleMania is a no-holds-barred match between Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar to go along with the main event: Triple H against Roman Reigns for the WWE world heavyweight title.
