Interview with William and Mary Sollenberger, owners

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: As members of the Northglenn community, we have long felt that the neighborhood surrounding the 104th Avenue and Huron Street area is lacking in amenities, and we felt led to provide one. The intersection is a hub for folks traveling to work.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: Quality donuts, including a wide variety of flavors cooked from handmade batter, and frosting flavors. We have a wide line of regular cake donuts and raised donuts, and also a bunch of specials of all sorts of fun. We are a take-and-go shop. Thee is seating outdoors in warm weather, but we are here for you to pick up a few amazing donuts and take them to enjoy with family, friends, co-workers — share the love with those you love. Luna Gourmet Coffee & Tea is our coffee offering; they are the new parent company of Boyers, and the coffee is amazing. You can also order a Ghirardelli cocoa. We have a wide choice of cold beverages, and our featured juices and cold teas are the Hawaiian Sun.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: It’s fun to eat a really good donut and feel sort of like a kid, and it’s fun to see kids of all ages enjoying a treat.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: We wouldn’t really call it a challenge, but we do want folks to know that we don’t just cram some mediocre donuts into a bag or box and get you out the door as quickly as possible. We serve each customer with attention and care, and endeavor to present the product in a way that, when it arrives at it’s destination, it still looks as good as it tastes. We value the time and effort that goes into preparing wonderful donuts, and give proper respect to the investment and artistry delivered by everyone involved with getting them to your pallet.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: On Fridays, we hand-make our special French crullers. They’re very big, twisted donuts. We save them until the end of the week so our customers can look forward to it.
