They see themselves as everyday folks who were just doing their job.
But thanks to actions by Kristin Genova, Natalie Littlefield, Brian Kakac, Liz Rowbotham, Drew Sprafke, Victor Palomares, Geras Shoukulu and Jacqueline Mukandekezi, lives were saved — in one sense or another.
Their actions ranged from administering emergency CPR to the victim of a massive heart attack who otherwise would not have survived to fostering refugee minors from war-torn nations. And when their good deeds were brought to the attention of Mile High chapter of the American Red Cross, the organization selected them as the honorees for the 2016 Heroes Soiree.
Chaired by Xcel Energy executives Alice Jackson and Jerome Davis, the Heroes Soiree brought 850 people to EXDO Event Center for a celebration that, like the quick-thinking and humanitarian gestures exhibited by the honorees, was anything but ordinary.
While guests sampled cocktails, crab cakes and other hors d’oeuvres from Catering by Design, an aerialist literally swung from the rafters in the reception area while The Motones played sweet soul music in the background. The honorees were introduced by emcees Reggie Rivers and Britt Moreno, following remarks by national Red Cross president Gail McGovern, local CEO Gino Greco and Gov. John Hickenlooper.
The evening didn’t end there. It continued with shuttle bus rides to The Source, where an after-party was held.
