Saturday-Sunday. While comic-cons around the country celebrate the influence of Japanese art and animation over the years, there’s a more traditional, low-key celebration of Japanese culture happening in Arvada this weekend. The 48th annual Japanese Doll & Cultural Festival, which combines two Japanese celebrations, Hina Matsuri (Girl’s Day) and Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day), features doll exhibitions, ikebana (flower arranging), bonsai, kimonos, shodo (calligraphy), hands-on crafts and a tea ceremony — with live music, dance and martial arts. Free admission, 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. March 5-6 at Simpson United Methodist Church, 6001 Wolff St. in Arvada. 303-428-7963 or .
