GREELEY — A 48-year-old woman died Wednesday night outside the JBS plant in north Greeley after she was hit by a car while walking across the street to meet her husband.

The crash happened about 7:25 p.m. in the southbound lanes of 8th Avenue at the intersection with H Street. The woman, who was wearing black clothing on a dark night, was struck by a 2007 blue Toyota 4Runner while she was headed east across the street, Greeley police Lt. David Spies said.

The driver stopped once the crash happened and waited for police. Spies said preliminary indications are that the driver was not impaired when the crash happened, though police were continuing to investigate.

The woman is the sixth person to die on Weld County roads so far this year.
