Portions of McIntyre Street north of Golden will be closed through the end of May.

The portion of four-lane road that passes over Colorado 58 will be down to one lane in each direction through May 31 while Xcel installs a natural gas pipeline.

The project was expected to end March 31, but the timeline had to be extended after the contractor encountered a substantial amount of groundwater. Though the road will be open to through traffic, motorists should expect significant delays, according to a Jefferson County release.

Work just to the north of the construction also will impact traffic, as utility crews install infrastructure for a new 7-11 being built at the corner of McIntyre Street and West 44th Avenue.

Other portions of McIntyre to the north were closed this week as part of that will widen the road to four lanes between West 44th and West 60th avenues. Construction began last May and is slated to end in June.

McIntyre is a primary access road for many residents who live north of Golden in unincorporated Jefferson County.
