Fort Collins police have arrested a man on suspicion of child abuse — a felony charge — after his 4-month-old son was found with life-threatening injuries.
Jason Schneider, 29, was booked into the Larimer County jail after he turned himself in to authorities.
Police say on Feb. 18, Schneider called 911 to report that his infant son was choking.
“Schneider explained to police and medical personnel that he was feeding formula to his son when the child suddenly choked and became unconscious,” police said in a news release. “Schneider said he performed CPR and back blows on the child before emergency medical responders arrived on scene.”
The child was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital before being was flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital Colorado. Doctors there told authorities the boy’s injuries were the result of non-accidental trauma and not consistent with CPR or back blows.
On Thursday, Fort Collins police issued an arrest warrant for Schneider.
