Interview with Liz and Casey Hay, owners

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: Liz has always had aspirations of working for herself. We come from a family of entrepreneurs and the idea of building a business from the ground up sounded very rewarding. Casey had been working in corporate America for a few years and knew the frustrations of working for someone else. We are both creative, fun, outgoing individuals who had the drive and motivation to start our own business. We saw what a great concept the paint-and-sip industry was and how it incorporated our need for creativity and human interaction. We knew we could make this concept even better and decided to give it a go.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: UnWined offers an experience unlike other businesses in the entertainment industry; we encourage our clients to tap into the creative side of their brain. With the fun, inspiring atmosphere we have created, it lets people build talent and share a one-of-a-kind experience through painting. As we live in a time where art is becoming less and less accessible to the public, we have been able to fill that void and bring it to people on a more personal level. This is an activity that can be enjoyed together by all ages and stages in life.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: Everyone is creative and we bring that out in people — this is our favorite part about our business. We get to entertain people every night and make art and painting achievable to people who never thought they had talent. Being able to put a smile on someone’s face and allow them to focus on something that will make them happy and leave with a feeling of accomplishment is extremely rewarding and is what keeps us going. We are the fun part of everyone’s day!

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: We experience the challenges that any business faces, and that is embracing innovation and evolving our brand to reflect the wants and needs of our clients. We are constantly watching the market to make sure we are offering the best experience possible for the people who walk through our doors. As a start-up, another major challenge is getting our name out there. We have created a fun, creative environment for the people in our area and we want them to know we are here.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: We are millennials both under the age of 30, we are independent owners and we happen to be sisters. We have managed to work together to create a business we are extremely proud of.
