A Greeley babysitter faces charges after she allegedly provided false information to police when her young charge was attacked by a dog.

Greeley police and animal control officers responded about 5 p.m. Monday to a report that a 7-year-old boy had been attacked by a dog. They discovered a boy with numerous punctures and cuts on his face, head and neck, said Sgt. J.P. Tymkowych in a written statement.

The boy was taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center where he was treated and later released for non-life-threatening injuries.

The boy’s babysitter Patricia Castillo, 54, the boy was walking to a park when he was attacked and that the dog ran away.

Police later found the dog responsible for attacking the boy and took it into custody. The dog’s owner, Robert Castillo, 48, of Greeley, was cited for child abuse-negligence resulting in injury, owning an aggressive/vicious animal and failing to provide information regarding proof of rabies vaccination. The dog was placed in quarantine for 10 days, Tymkowych said.

The dog was not on the loose at any time and the attack happened inside the home, Tymkowych said.

Additional follow-up investigation will continue Tuesday, Tymkowych said.
