Re: What’s behind the fight over legalizing rain barrels in Colorado, March 12 news story.
In the legislative battle over rain barrels, it should be abundantly clear that those who want rain barrels have the law on their side. When raindrops are caught in rain barrels before reaching the ground, how can they be a part of somebody s ground water rights?
If water rights are extended above terra firma, what is next — claiming humidity as a water right? If cloud seeding causes a cloud to drop its raindrops before it gets to your place, has your water right been violated? What about kids who chant, Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day! ? Are they attempting to violate somebody s water right?
Go soak your head in a rain barrel was a common put-down when people used rain barrels to get water to wash clothes or take a bath. Lawyers and legislators who want to regulate rain drops should do just that.
