Three Colorado universities are ranking high in the contest to put a mascot on the tail of a Frontier Airlines plane.
The Denver-based airline launched a contest this month that will allow the mascot of a team or organization to join the stable of wildlife already decorating its planes.
As of Thursday, the top five vote-getters according to a Twitter post from Frontier were:
1. Weimer High School wildcats (in Weimar, Texas)
2. Colorado State University’s Cam the Ram
3. University of Colorado’s Ralphie the Buffalo
4. University of Texas’s Bevo, a Texas longhorn
5. Colorado School of Mines’ Marvin the Miner and Blaster the Burro
The airline will use a real-life depiction of the mascot on the tail and give it the nickname used by the team.
For example, if University of Maryland wins, a terrapin will go on the tail and the critter would be called Testudo. If the mascot doesn’t have a nickname, Frontier reserves the right to select one.
If the winning team’s mascot is not an animal, the airline will select a North American animal and name it for the group.
, which remains open through April 30. The winning mascot will be selected in May.
