Spotlight on Marcelo Sarvas:
The Brazilian midfielder was traded to D.C. by the Rapids in the preseason. The 34-year-old played the 2015 season for Colorado, producing two goals and an assist in 25 games (21 starts). Sarvas, a box-to-box midfielder, led United with 11 tackles, 38 passes and a pass-completion percentage of .816 last weekend. He told The Denver Post that he didn’t have any bad feelings over the trade. “Of course, I’ll do my best to win the game,” Sarvas said. “It won’t change anything for me. The best way to show respect is to do what you always do.”

NOTEBOOK
Rapids:
They are coming off an emotional stoppage-time victory over Los Angeles Galaxy but are facing a team they haven’t defeated since 2011. Colorado last won at D.C. in 2010. Albanian striker Shkelzen Gashi is suspended for Sunday’s match because he re-entered the field of play to celebrate Marco Pappa’s winning goal last weekend. Jermaine Jones also is suspended. Colorado (1-1-0) held the Galaxy to a pass-completion percentage of .649, the third-lowest mark of any team in an MLS game this season.
D.C. United:
With its top two goalkeepers injured, D.C. (0-1-1) will be forced to start Travis Worra or Charlie Horton against the Rapids. D.C. will be playing its 21st home opener, going 9-7-4 in the previous 20. Among active players, D.C. has three of the top six who have scored the most goals against Colorado: Alvaro Saborio (six), Fabian Espindola (four) and Lamar Neagle (four).
Injury report:
Sean St. Ledger (knee) and John Berner (wrist) won’t play for Colorado. Chris Korb (knee), Bill Hamid (knee), Markus Halsti (knee) and Andrew Dykstra (back) won’t play for D.C.
