Re: Brewpub, Smashburger headed to DIA as council OKs concessions contract, March 15 news story (online only).
I understand the complaints from Oskar Blues, Great Divide, and Wynkoop (among others, I m sure) regarding their DIA concessions snub. But here s an idea: Let s put a permanent beer garden in the airport greeting space, complete with rotating taps showing off both large and small breweries around the state. Like it or not, Colorado is known — and very much respected — for its beer culture, craft or otherwise. A beer garden would be representative of many of our tourist-drawing businesses, and with a rotating selection, smaller breweries could get a stool at the bar. And how about an interactive kiosk that shows location and directions of the various breweries, or a place to book brew crawls (with a meeting spot at the passenger pickup area)? The new rail and hotel, along with the millions of folks passing through the airport, should provide a wide (and thirsty) clientele.
