PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot to death by police during a family disturbance at a Pueblo home.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports (http://goo.gl/jRXTkl ) officers encountered 48-year-old Joel Gonzales holding a handgun in one hand and a knife in the other at the West Side home March 24. According to police, officers repeatedly pleaded with Gonzales to drop the weapons, but he refused.
Gonzales then advanced toward the officers, who shot him. He died at a nearby hospital.
The two officers who fired at Gonzales have been placed on paid administrative leave. Both of them were wearing body cameras that were activated during the confrontation.
Neither of the officers was injured.
