Overland’s De’Ron Davis obviously has respect for Grandview’s Michaela Onyenwere

Getting your player ready...

Very candid moment at The Denver Post All-Colorado Basketball photo session on Wednesday …

Five players and a coach regardless of classification were chosen for each of the boys and girls teams. Not surprisingly, they included Overland’s De’Ron Davis, the highly touted senior who led the Trailblazers to back-to-back Class 5A titles and will play next season for Indiana’s Hoosiers, and Grandview’s Michaela Onyenwere, an athletic junior who undoubtedly will land a high-end scholarship.

And both were on the past season’s teams by The Denver Post.

Anyway, the subject of Wednesday’s McDonald’s All-American Games in Chicago came up and Davis, who was perhaps the state’s best candidate for the 39th national game in years, heard that there was a Coloradan in the 15th girls game.

He immediately looked over to Onyenwere and said: “There’s an all-star game and you’re not in it?”

Davis’ respect for Onyenwere was obvious. He was then informed that the Mac Games were for seniors only.

And there’s always next season.
