Douglas County authorities found a body while battling a structure fire early Sunday west of Castle Rock.

Fire crews were called to the scene in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive about 2 a.m. where they found a fully engulfed structure between a house and a large barn.

“There was an unidentified body located inside the building,” the county sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Authorities say they were able to contact people inside of the home but that one of the home’s owners remains unaccounted for.

“There is no indication of criminal activity,” the release said.

The sheriff’s office says it is working with the Douglas County Coroner’s Office to positively identify the person and determine the cause and manner of death.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” the release said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Williamson at 303-660-7084.
