Colorado House Bill 1355 would give authority over oil and gas facilities to local governments, rather than the state. (Denver Post file)
Re: Oil and gas bill deserves defeat, March 25 editorial.
Thanks to The Post for your editorial urging the defeat of House Bill 1355. As noted, this bill would wreak havoc on the oil and gas industry in our state and is a veiled attempt to ban fracking. HB 1355 would trample the legitimate rights of mineral owners and would be devastating to our economy.
Those who seek to ban fracking fail to recognize the huge economic impact the oil and gas industry has on our state s economy and our way of life. Medicines, plastics, agriculture, transportation, and our home comfort are all dependent on fossil fuels.
The answer to any problems associated with the industry is not to ban it. Colorado already has some of the most stringent rules governing the industry, and study after study has shown that fracking does not contaminate water or cause other ills ascribed to it by anti-fracking activists.
Are there issues surrounding the industry? Certainly. But let s deal with those issues sensibly and openly without destroying the rights of mineral and property owners and destroying our economy.
