Denver s settling of the lawsuit regarding Alonzo Ashley s death at the Denver Zoo was a mistake. This obviously was not a wrongful death but a result of Ashley s actions (he reportedly attacked police before they shot him with a stun gun). His death was unfortunate and tragic but not wrongful.
The settling of lawsuits to save money in the short run only results in more suits and more funds being depleted in the long run. The medical profession learned this the hard way many years ago. Companies and institutions that never, ever settle have fewer suits and expend fewer funds in the long run.
