The Colorado Bureau of Investigation will open its new Forensic Science Laboratory next week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Arvada facility.

A $7 million renovation of the 24,500-square-foot space at 6000 W. 54th Ave. was completed last month. More than 45 forensic scientists in 10 disciplines will take advantage of more modern lab space that includes specialized systems such as secured walls for evidence vaults and enhanced electrical supply.

Lab analysis in areas including biology, DNA, latent prints, firearms and toxicology will be performed on thousands of pieces of evidence at the site each year.

Public tours of the facility will be provided from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 15. To schedule a 20-minute tour for individuals or groups, contact Sandi Means at 970-248-7500 or Sandi.Means@state.co.us.
