GREELEY — Regional planning officials will spend $2.2 million in federal money to pay for a U.S. 34 traffic study, which could lay the groundwork for potential expansion or renovation of the highway.
The North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization unanimously approved the expenditure during its council meeting Thursday night in LaSalle. The group coordinates regional planning and administer federal funds allocated from gas taxes.
The $2.2 million will pay for a Planning, Environmental and Linkage — or PEL — study, which looks at the environmental, social and economic impacts of the highway, upcoming problems and surrounding communities’ growth patterns.
