Denver’s disabled community will be tutored next week on how to safely and effectively use the new commuter rail service between Union Station and DIA, which opens April 22.
The safety day is scheduled for April 19 from noon to 3:30 p.m and is sponsored by the Regional Transportation District.
“Commuter rail is brand new to the Denver region and introduces several new features that are much different from the light rail system were are used to,” said Greg Straight, project director for the RTD FasTracks P3 project. “This event will allow the ADA community to become familiarized with the new commuter rail features at a station, pedestrian crossing and on a train.”
Activities will be:
• 11:30 a.m. (meeting option A) — meet at Union Station to board bus to Central Park Station;
• Noon (meeting option B) — Meet at Central Park Station (8175 E. Smith Road, Denver, 80238);
• 12:30 p.m. — Explore station and pedestrian crossing features;
• 1:30 p.m. — Board bus to Union Station to tour a stationary commuter rail train;
• 2 p.m. — Tour train and Union Station platform;
• 3 p.m. — Board bus back to Central Station Park.
The Americans with Disabilities Act community is welcome to attend all activities or select the ones they find the most interesting.
Attendees are asked to RSVP to Katie Angell at 303-299-2611, or Katherine.Angell@rtd-denver.com to plan for transportation needs for the event.
