Denver Public Schools officials are working with Glendale police on an investigation into and 200 rounds of ammunition from a party attended mainly by East High School students.
Will Jones, a DPS spokesman, said there is no evidence the weapon was stolen by an East student, but the district is taking precautions nonetheless.
The district’s security department has been helping Glendale investigators identify some of the party goers. Additionally, there have been increased security patrols at the school as a precaution.
Authorities said the Knights Armament firearm, fitted with an Trijicon ACOG optical scope, was taken on March 28 when East High School students were on spring break.
Glendale police believe the stolen rifle is a public safety threat.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 729-913-7867. Tipsters are eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
