Jeffco United for Action members rally outside the Jefferson County Courthouse to turn in petitions, demand the recall of three Jefferson Country school board members, on July 28, 2015 in Golden. (Callaghan O’Hare, The Denver Post)
Re: Another abuse of right to recall, April 9 editorial.
According to your editorial, three conservative Jefferson County school board members were recalled over political disputes.
You still don t get it! They were recalled because they wanted to use the Jefferson County School Board for political purposes. The school board is not there for political purposes. It is there to manage a school system. Students around Jefferson County didn t walk of class because of politics. They walked out because the new school board attempted to change the history curriculum to support their political interests. That is not a political dispute.
Sometimes elected officials do things after election different from what they said before the election. To correct these situations, recall may be necessary. The recall process is an important refinement of democracy. Why is the Denver Post Editorial Board against it?
