A person has died after being shot in the head Sunday evening in Idaho Springs, authorities say.
The shooting happened at an apartment building on the 300 block of Idaho Street, where emergency responders found the wounded person. The victim was taken to a hospital and died there on Monday, prosecutors say.
The 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a news release that a person of interest was arrested at the scene but has since been released without a charge.
“A criminal investigation is ongoing involving the Idaho Springs Police Department, Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Bureau of Investigation,” the release said.
An autopsy for the person — whose name, gender and age have not been released — has been scheduled.
Additional details will be released as an investigation into the fatal shooting progresses, prosecutors say.
