The owner of the Timberline Lodge Assisted Living facility north of Longmont was arrested Thursday following an eight-month investigation into alleged theft from a resident, Boulder County sheriff’s deputies announced Friday.
Christopher Butler, 59, was being held on suspicion of theft from an elderly resident at the facility and faces charges of check fraud and theft from an at-risk adult, authorities said.
The Lodge remains open, deputies said, until family members of residents can make alternative living arrangements. The investigation did not uncover any situation where a resident was at physical risk.
The investigation found Butler allegedly became a signatary to an elderly man’s bank account and began writing checks to himself, deputies said.
It’s unclear how much money is allegedly missing, but authorities said it appears to be more than $200,000. Investigators are looking at other residents of the Lodge to see if their accounts were similarly impacted.
