Re: Should we limit pot potency?, April 10 point-counterpoint columns.

(Seth McConnell, The Denver Post)

Marijuana industry spokesperson Michael Elliott ( No: It s an attempt to make marijuana illegal ) paints anyone who proposes reasonable safeguards on high-potency pot with the broad brush of prohibitionist. So apparently he sees no need to address Colorado pot s unprecedented THC levels, despite reports of deaths and dramatic increases in hospitalizations. In fact, legal pot and potency limits are compatible, as the Netherlands and Uruguay are demonstrating.

Thoughtful regulations don t undercut Amendment 64 — they demonstrate that Colorado is taking prudent steps to protect citizens in this evolving policy area.

I m not sure I understand the rationale for regulating potency of marijuana. Shouldn t this be covered under labeling guidelines like it is with beer, wine and alcohol? I do agree that this isn t your parents marijuana — but craft beer with 10, 15 and 18 percent alcohol isn t your parents beer either.

Leave it alone and ensure it s labeled correctly and people understand what the label means.

Larry Ellingson, Edgewater
