Plans are on the table to renovate the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The parking garage, above, at 14th and Arapahoe streets, could be torn down and the site used for a new symphony hall, below. (Cyrus McCrimmon, The Denver Post)
Re: The public-private partnership that could change the face of Denver, April 10 Life & Culture story.
So the idea is to tear down, rather than update, Boettcher Concert Hall in the Denver Performing Arts Complex and replace it with a new half-size hall.
I m only half-kidding when I suggest that for big-draw concerts (the likes of Beethoven and such), maybe the Colorado Symphony could relocate to Colorado Springs (if they ll have us, since they already have a symphony orchestra in a large hall) or rent a local megachurch.
Just when we started to enjoy the illusion of being a world-class city, Denver will be Cowtown USA all over again.
