Denver police ID man accused in DUI crash with patrol car that sent officers to hospital

Denver police have identified the 23-year-old man facing a list of charges after he allegedly before fleeing on foot.

Austin Icke is suspected of driving under the influence, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to stop at a red light.

He is also accused of failing to report a crash and driving without insurance.

Police say Icke crashed into the patrol SUV near the intersection of West Florida Avenue and South Irving Street.

According to a probable cause statement, Icke was apprehended by officers three blocks from the crash scene.

“The suspect displayed numerous indicia of impairment including: a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on his breath, slurred speech, and watery (and) red eyes,” the statement said.

No one was seriously injured in the wreck, though the two officers inside the police SUV were taken to Denver Health Medical Center for evaluation.

Denver jail records show Icke posted $1,500 bond and was released. He is due before a judge April 25.

Police say the Denver District Attorney’s Office will determine what formal charges will be filed against Icke.
