The smell of rocks and buttered popcorn can only mean one of two things: Your friend tripped in the parking lot on his way into the movie theatre or Red Rocks has announced the schedule for 2016’s . (Hint: It’s the second one!)

The 17th annual movie, music and comedy event series — each showing this year will also feature a Comedy Works-selected comedian — features eight films that run through September 6.

Film on the Rocks 2016 kicks off on May 23 with a “Grease” sing-a-long, featuring Lissie and Megan Burtt & the Cure For Love.

Doors to the shows will open at 6:30 p.m., with bands starting at 7 p.m. Films will begin at dusk.

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $47+ for VIP packages. They go on sale Friday, April 22 via .

The VIP package features preferred seating at Red Rocks and your choice of a party bus or Trading Post pre-party. The Party Bus takes off from Blake Street Tavern and includes a catered ride to and from the event, with drinks provided by New Belgium Brewing. The Trading Pose pre-party features catering by Steuben’s Food Truck, drinks from Miller Coors and activities organized by Play Mile High. .
