A 20-year-old man was killed Thursday night in a head-on, two-vehicle crash in southern Colorado.
The Colorado State Patrol suspects alcohol was a contributing factor in the wreck on U.S. 160 about 14 miles west of Walsenburg.
The wreck happened when a Dodge pickup truck, traveling westbound on the highway, drifted into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2012 Chevrolet hatchback.
The State Patrol says the Dodge caught fire and rolled after the crash. The Chevrolet was forced off the road.
The pickup’s driver, 33-year-old Maximiliano Delacruz-Munoz, of Walsenburg, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash but only had minor injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Mason Lykins, of Walsenburg, was also not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and died of his injuries.
Lykins’ passenger was also unrestrained and seriously injured in the crash. He was taken to a nearby hospital.
Authorities say the crash remains under investigation. No arrests have been announced.
