A school in Westminster closed Wednesday after a chemical reaction in a science classroom injured a student.
Steve Saunders, a spokesman for the Westminster School District, said one student from Hidden Lake High School was transported to Denver Health with a hand injury.
Lt. Courtney Van Marter, acting as a spokeswoman for the Westminster Fire Department, said the department responded to the school at 7:46 a.m.
Van Marter said the student was getting extra help on a project early in the morning. There is no information on what chemicals were involved that caused the injury, she said.
Saunders said the school was closed for the day out of an abundance of caution and the school should reopen Thursday.
The student was in a supervised classroom when the accident occurred, Saunders said, but the exact circumstances that led to the injury will be investigated.
Westminster police also responded to the school and helped evacuate students and staff members.
