Police in Colorado Springs are searching for a suspect in a Sunday evening stabbing that sent one person to the hospital with several wounds.

Officers were called to the 700 block S. Sierra Madre Street about 5:30 p.m. on reports of a person who had been stabbed.

Police say their investigation found that the victim — described only as a male — was parked with his family in the area when he exchanged “heated words” with a man who was urinating in public.

The man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times, investigators said.

“The victim was taken to surgery with serious bodily injuries, but is expected to recover as none of the injuries were life threatening,” police said in a news release.

Authorities say they have not identified the suspect. He is described as a light-skinned black man with short curly black hair who is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs roughly 165 pounds.

The suspect was wearing a dark-colored, camouflage-type pullover and khaki-colored pants.
