A fifth-grade student from Aurora created a poster recognizing missing children that represented Colorado in a national campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Duyen Vu of Rolling Hill Elementary won the state competition with her drawing of Earth circled by a band of children and hearts with the message “Bring our missing children home.”

Although she didn’t place in the national contest, her work — as well as that of second- and third-place finishers — will be honored as Colorado marks National Missing Children’s Day at noon on May 25 on the west steps of the state Capitol.

Colorado authorities report 249 active cases of juveniles missing for a year or more in 2016.
