Bam! Pow! Free!
Swoop in to your local comic book store on May 7 for this freebie. For 15 years now, independent shops give away comic books on Free Comic Book Day. “X-ray vision” shows participating stores all over the Denver metro area. Be sure to verify store hours, as well as any special conditions or restrictions, before flying off. Many shops also have family-friendly activities planned, as part of the celebration.
Get the scoop
We all love dishing the good stuff with friends, especially when it’s ice cream. While Häagen-Dazs has no actual meaning in any language, it translates to “creamy deliciousness” for many. The ice cream giant hosts its 10th annual Free Cone Day on May 10. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Häagen-Dazs shops will be giving customers a free scoop of ice cream. The offer is for one free kiddie-size ice cream in a cup, sugar cone or cake cone. Limit one per person. There are five participating locations – Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Lakewood and Westminster.
Morning perk
Fans of Dunkin’ Donuts are invited to enjoy its new Baskin-Robbins butter pecan-flavored iced (of course!) coffee for free. On May 10, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., customers can get a complimentary cup of the sweetness. If the flavor’s not for you, just request a different coffee of your choice. The offer is only available at participating locations in Colorado, so check first.
Nurses’ station
Just as nurses take care of patients, Cinnabon wants to “take care” of them in honor of National Nurse Appreciation Week. Through May 12, nurses can get a dose of sweetness by picking up a Cinnabon Classic Roll or MiniBon Roll for free at participating locations. Limit one per person. Nurses just need to show their healthcare ID badge for the gooey goodness.
Postmarked
Philatelists of all ages are placing a stamp of approval on Denver. Hundreds of stamp collectors will be at the Rocky Mountain Stamp Show from May 13 to 15 at The Crown Plaza Hotel DIA. Even though we just stick them on an envelope without thinking, stamps are snapshots of the past and present. In addition to many seminars about the history of stamps, more than 30 dealers will showcase their wares. Attendees can also learn more about their own inherited stamp albums or old family collections for free The show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the first two days and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the final day. Admission is $2 per day or $5 for all three days. Kids accompanied by an adult get in for free. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and military personnel in uniform also get in for free.
Subway stop
Make SUBWAY your one-stop shop for breakfast and lunch. Through May 31, stop by before 9 a.m., buy any sub and get a 6-inch breakfast sub for free at participating locations. Pick up your lunch for the day and eat breakfast without breaking your budget. If you’re really hungry in the morning, just buy two breakfast subs and get one for free.
