Getting your player ready...

Adam Stawinski, who died last month at 97, played his clarinet for tips in Denver s 16th Street Mall and near Coors Field. (The Denver Post file)

Re: Clarinet Man, fixture on 16th Street Mall in Denver, dies at age 97, May 4 obituary.

In the early 1990s, I worked downtown and ate lunch on the 16th Street Mall. Invariably, I would see Adam Stawinski, the Clarinet Man. I would usually stop, listen and contribute, and once in a while would talk to him. Conversations were brief because he had his work to do. I was sorry to learn of his passing, but glad he made the front page so we could learn more about him. He always had a spiral notebook with a list of songs to play — no music, just titles; everything was from memory. I m sure thousands remember him and certainly miss listening to his one-man concerts. I know I do.
