Denver police arrested one person early Friday morning after a chase that led them into Jefferson County.

The incident started in south Denver, when police received a report at about 2:25 a.m. of a shooting near Colorado Boulevard and Evans Avenue.

Detective Mary McIver, acting as a spokeswoman for Denver police, said when police arrived, they found a person with a gunshot wound.

That person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

When police responded, McIver said, officers also spotted a white vehicle that matched the description they had taken of the vehicle involved in the incident.

Police attempted to make contact with the driver, but ended up in a pursuit that led them into Jefferson County. McIver said she didn’t know what speeds the vehicles reached during the chase.

Officers finally stopped the vehicle near Hampden Avenue and Simms Street — more than 10 miles away.

McIver said police are not yet releasing the identify of the person they took into custody.
