
An Adams County jury this week convicted a man of reckless manslaughter in of a 14-year-old boy.
, 18, also was found guilty of two counts of attempted reckless manslaughter and third-degree assault in the Sept. 2 slaying of Marcell Jay Johnson, prosecutors said.
The conviction was handed down Tuesday after a seven-day trial, according to court records.
Lee turned 18 less than a month before the killing.
Court records show Lee was acquitted of a more serious charge of attempted first-degree murder. The teen initially was charged with first-degree murder in Johnson’s death.
The shooting happened at the Fitzsimons Place apartment building in Aurora and left a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his arm.
Shavonne Hogue, who lived in the building where the shooting happened, told The Denver Post after Johnson was killed that she heard gunfire and kids screaming before finding the teen sprawled on the sidewalk with a wound to his chest.
“My friend was doing CPR on him. He took a couple of breaths, and then the paramedics came,” she said.
Lee is slated to be sentenced July 29.
