Police in Thornton are investigating the death of a woman who was hit in the street overnight.
Chief Deputy Ken Reather, acting as a spokesman for the department, said the accident happened just after 1 a.m. Friday near Washington Street and 84th Avenue.
Police believe a woman, who was riding a motorcycle, dropped something such as a bag or purse in the street near the intersection. The woman pulled into a business parking lot, parked her motorcycle and walked out onto Washington Street to pick up the bag.
When she was stooped over picking it up, a vehicle driving south on Washington Street did not see the woman and struck her.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
Reather said the driver who struck the woman stayed on scene and cooperated with police.
Police have not identified the woman and have not located the bag or purse that witnesses believe she was picking up from the street.
Reather also noted that the woman was wearing all dark clothing including a black leather jacket, chaps and a black helmet.
The investigation is ongoing and police have not determined if the driver will face any charges.
The intersection was reopened at about 5 a.m.
