A man who was fatally shot by police in Evans has been identified as a wanted felon and gang member, according to police.
Sean Ryan Mondragon, 24, of Alamosa, was a member of the 29th Street Bloods gang, according to a Greeley Police Department media release.
Police have identified Mondragon as the bowling alley armed robbery Wednesday night, where he allegedly ordered a woman at gunpoint to withdraw $200 from an ATM or her friend would be shot.
After the armed robbery, officers came across Mondragon in a car and a chase ensued that eventually ended in Evans, police said.
At U.S. 85 and 31st Street in Evans, the suspect vehicle crashed and the driver jumped from the car.
Mondragon then allegedly tried to carjack a Chevrolet sedan, forcing a man and woman from the car. Officers confronted Mondragon at that point and he was fatally shot.
A frightened dog who fled the attempted car jacking has been found safe and was reunited with its owners, police said.
Mondragon had an active felony warrant out of Rio Grande County where he was wanted on suspicion of assault, obstructing a police officer, driving under restraint and committing a crime of violence.
He also had an active Colorado Department of Corrections felony warrant for an alleged parole violation on a Broomfield burglary conviction.
The car Mondragon disabled as he fled officers had property in it that was stolen during a recent Evans burglary, police said.
An investigation of the incident is ongoing, police said.
